Speakers: Dr. Joel Day and Shawn VanDiver

Dr. Joel Day has over 15 years of global and local public policy experience, and currently is a professor of international relations at the University of San Diego as well as an advisor on hate crimes, extremism, and homeland security issues at the City of San Diego. Day’s work on counterterrorism has appeared in top scholarly journals and he has briefed Congress, DHS, and the Pentagon on national security issues.

Shawn VanDiver is a 12-year Navy Veteran, serves on the board of the Women's Museum of California, and is a Co-Founder and Director of the Truman National Security Project San Diego Chapter. He also serves on several boards and committees at the local, state, and national levels focusing on human trafficking, national security, and civic engagement. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School, earning degrees and certificates in Domestic Security Management, Homeland Security.
