Our meetings are always interesting and include relevant films and media, guest speakers, panel discussions, and an open forum for members to express their views on topics that are most important to them.

Black Mountain Democratic Club
Mission and History

In June of 2003, Howard Dean announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States. By August of that year, the Scripps Ranch, Mira Mesa, and Rancho Peñasquitos area 'Dean for America' meet-up group was organized by Daylia Vaughan and attended by fifteen other community residents including Patricia Davison and Michael Wray. By February of 2004, Dr. Dean dropped out of the race, but the group was determined to keep its grassroots activism alive, so it continued as 'Democracy for America,' working for other campaigns, races, and issues. In September of 2004, it became an officially chartered Democratic club within the San Diego County Democratic Party.

Today, the Black Mountain Democratic Club is proud of an enthusiastic and growing membership in the communities of Mira Mesa, Scripps Ranch, and Rancho Peñasquitos, dedicated to peace and justice. We work diligently to promote integrity in government, increase voter registration, ensure honest and open elections, and elect progressive Democrats to office at all levels of government. We educate ourselves by hosting speakers on timely and important issues, participating in street fairs and community events,  and providing a forum for fair and open discussions of the issues that matter to all of us. Finally, and most sincerely, we welcome anyone who wants to become part of our journey to join our Club.

If you are not already a member, please attend one of our monthly meetings or contact any of our Club officers to join.  We look forward to meeting you!
